Hector Pieterson memorial museum

Hector Pieterson memorial museum – Hector Pieterson at age 13, was the first student killed in the Soweto Uprising of 1976. This uprising started on 16 June as a peaceful protest march organized by Soweto Students. One of the main grievances was the introduction of Afrikaans, regarded as the language of the oppressor, as a medium of instruction in all African schools.
Regina Mundi Church – Trip to Soweto is incomplete without a visit to Regina Mundi, Soweto's largest Catholic Church. The church played a key role in the fight against apartheid. It is thus and important destination on the tourist map: the church opens its doors daily to streams of visitors keen to witness the scars it still bears from the Soweto uprisings, when security forces stormed through its doors, firing live ammunition at fleeing students.
